प्रभु येसु ख्रीस्त में प्यारे भाइयों और बहनों,

आज माता कलीसिया पेंतेकोस्त पर्व मना रही है। यह पर्व ईश्वर की पवित्र आत्मा के आगमन और कलीसिया के जन्म का उत्सव है। पेंतेकोस्त शब्द का अर्थ "पचासवाँ दिन" होता है, क्योंकि यह प्रभु येसु के पुनरुत्थान के पचास दिन बाद आता है। इस दिन प्रेरित, माता मरियम और अन्य शिष्य येरूसालेम में एकत्र थे, जब अचानक पवित्र आत्मा उन पर आग की जिह्वाओं के रूप में उतरा। वे विभिन्न भाषाओं में प्रचार करने लगे, और लोगों ने अपनी-अपनी भाषा में सुसमाचार सुना।

पहले पाठ में, प्रेरित चरित हमें बताता है कि पवित्र आत्मा के आगमन ने प्रेरितों को साहस और शक्ति दी। यह घटना प्रभु येसु की उस प्रतिज्ञा को पूर्ण करती है, जहाँ उन्होंने कहा था, “पवित्र आत्मा तुम पर उतरेगा और तुम शक्ति प्राप्त करोगे। तुम येरूसालेम, यहूदिया, सामरिया और पृथ्वी के छोर तक मेरे साक्षी बनोगे” (प्रेरित चरित 1:8)। हवा और आग पवित्र आत्मा की शक्ति और परिवर्तनकारी उपस्थिति के प्रतीक हैं। हवा हमें उत्पत्ति 2:7 में आदम को जीवन देने वाली ईश्वर की साँस और येज़ेकिएल 37:9-10 में सूखी हड्डियों को जीवित करने की याद दिलाती है। आग ईश्वर की उपस्थिति को दर्शाती है, जैसे मूसा के सामने जलती झाड़ी (निर्गमन 3:2) और इस्राएलियों का मार्गदर्शन करने वाला अग्नि-स्तंभ (निर्गमन 13:21)।

पेंतेकोस्त बाबेल की गड़बड़ी (उत्पत्ति 11:1-9) को उलट देता है, जहाँ मानव अभिमान ने भाषा के कारण विभाजन पैदा किया था। पेंतेकोस्त में, पवित्र आत्मा ने लोगों को एकजुट किया, ताकि वे अपनी-अपनी भाषा में सुसमाचार सुन सकें।

दूसरे पाठ में, संत पौलुस कुरिंथियों को समझाते हैं कि पवित्र आत्मा हर विश्वासी को कलीसिया की भलाई के लिए अलग-अलग वरदान देता है। कोई बुद्धि का वरदान पाता है, कोई विश्वास का, तो कोई चंगाई, भविष्यवाणी या आत्मिक विवेक का। लेकिन सभी वरदान एक ही आत्मा से आते हैं। पौलुस कहते हैं, “हम सब ने एक ही आत्मा में बपतिस्मा लिया है, चाहे यहूदी हों या यूनानी, दास हों या स्वतंत्र, और हम सब को एक ही आत्मा से पिलाया गया है” (1 कुरिंथियों 12:13)। यह हमें सिखाता है कि पवित्र आत्मा सभी विश्वासियों को, चाहे उनकी पृष्ठभूमि कुछ भी हो, एक शरीर में जोड़ता है।

सुसमाचार में, हम देखते हैं कि पुनरुत्थान की साँझ को प्रभु येसु अपने भयभीत शिष्यों के बीच प्रकट होते हैं और कहते हैं, “तुम्हें शांति हो!” फिर, वे उन पर साँस लेते हैं और कहते हैं, “पवित्र आत्मा ग्रहण करो। तुम जिनके पाप क्षमा करोगे, वे क्षमा किए जाएँगे; और जिनके पाप तुम रोक रखोगे, वे रोक रखे जाएँगे।” यह क्षण उत्पत्ति 2:7, जहाँ ईश्वर ने आदम में जीवन की साँस फूँकी, और येज़ेकिएल 37 की याद दिलाता है, जहाँ ईश्वर की साँस ने सूखी हड्डियों को जीवित किया। यह एक नई सृष्टि का प्रतीक है—आत्मा में नया जीवन। पवित्र आत्मा कलीसिया के मिशन के लिए दिया गया है। जैसे पिता ने येसु को भेजा, वैसे ही येसु अपने शिष्यों को प्रचार करने, चंगाई करने और पापों की क्षमा करने के लिए भेजते हैं। यह अधिकार आज भी कलीसिया में समाधान के संस्कार के माध्यम से बना रहता है।

पेंतेकोस्त का पर्व हमें यह याद दिलाता है कि पवित्र आत्मा आज भी हमारे बीच कार्य करता है। वह हमें येसु का साहसपूर्वक प्रचार करने, कलीसिया के रूप में एकजुट रहने, और सत्य और पवित्रता में मार्गदर्शन करने की शक्ति देता है। पौलुस, पेत्रुस और योहन सभी ने आत्मा की शक्ति से प्रेरित होकर कार्य किया। हमें भी अपने जीवन में पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में चलना चाहिए।

आज के पाठ हमें तीन महत्वपूर्ण शिक्षाएँ देते हैं:

1. पवित्र आत्मा हमें साहस और शक्ति देता है ताकि हम ख्रीस्त के साक्षी बन सकें।
2. वह हमें विभिन्न वरदानों के साथ एकजुट करता है, ताकि हम एक शरीर के रूप में कार्य करें।
3. पवित्र आत्मा हमें सत्य में मार्गदर्शन करता है और पवित्रता के लिए प्रेरित करता है।

आइए, हम अपने हृदय खोलें और प्रार्थना करें: “आ, पवित्र आत्मा, अपने विश्वासियों के हृदयों को भर दे और उनमें अपने प्रेम की आग प्रज्वलित कर!” आमेन।

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Today, we celebrate Pentecost, the great feast that marks the descent of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church. This event, prophesied in the Old Testament and fulfilled in the New Testament, is a powerful reminder that God’s Spirit continues to work in the world, empowering His people to be witnesses of Christ.

The scene described in Acts 2 is extraordinary. The apostles, along with Mother Mary and other disciples, were gathered in one place. Suddenly, a mighty wind filled the house, and tongues of fire appeared and rested on each of them. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in different languages.

This event fulfills Jesus' promise in Acts 1:8, where He told His disciples, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” The wind and fire symbolize the powerful and transformative nature of the Holy Spirit. Wind reminds us of God’s breath giving life to Adam (Genesis 2:7) and the prophetic vision of dry bones coming to life (Ezekiel 37:9-10). Fire represents God’s presence, as seen in the burning bush that spoke to Moses (Exodus 3:2) and the pillar of fire that guided the Israelites (Exodus 13:21).

Pentecost reverses the confusion of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9), where human pride led to division. At Babel, people were scattered because of language barriers, but at Pentecost, they were united by the Spirit’s power, hearing the Good News in their own tongues.

In his letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul explains that the Holy Spirit distributes diverse gifts for the common good of the Church. Some receive the gift of wisdom, some of faith, others of healing, prophecy, or discernment. Though we have different roles, we are all part of the one Body of Christ. Paul emphasizes, “For in one Spirit, we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all given to drink of one Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:13). This reminds us that the Holy Spirit unites believers across all nations and backgrounds, just as He did at Pentecost.

The Gospel reading takes us back to the evening of the Resurrection, when Jesus appeared to His fearful disciples, saying, “Peace be with you!” Then, He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” This moment echoes Genesis 2:7, where God breathed life into Adam, and Ezekiel 37, where God’s breath revived the dry bones. It signifies a new creation—a new life in the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is given for the mission of the Church. Just as the Father sent Jesus, Jesus now sends His disciples to preach, heal, and reconcile. This authority continues in the Church through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, where priests, through the power of the Spirit, forgive sins in Christ’s name.

Just as the apostles boldly preached after receiving the Spirit, we too are called to share our faith. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” Despite different languages and cultures, the Church is one body in Christ. Ephesians 4:3-4 says, “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit.” Jesus promised in John 16:13, “When the Spirit of truth comes; He will guide you into all truth.” The Holy Spirit helps us make wise decisions, strengthens us in trials, and teaches us to pray (Romans 8:26).

The Feast of Pentecost is not just an event of the past; it is a living reality. The Holy Spirit continues to:

• Empower us to proclaim Christ boldly.
• Unite us as one Church.
• Guide us in truth and holiness.

Let us open our hearts and pray: “Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love!” Amen.
