“समय से पहले तैयार रहें”
उपदेशक 11:9–12:8 लूका 9:43ब–45
आज का पहला पाठ हमें अपने जीवन को जिम्मेदारी के साथ जीने की शिक्षा देता है, क्योंकि एक दिन परमेश्वर हमारे जीवन का न्याय करेगा। कहा जाता है कि जो व्यक्ति अपना जीवन पूर्णता और बुद्धिमानी से जीता है, उसका बुढ़ापा भी गरिमा और संतोष से भर जाता है।
उपदेशक वृद्धावस्था का वर्णन अनेक रूपकों के माध्यम से करता है। घर की रखवाली करने वाले अर्थात् हाथ और भुजाएँ काँपने लगती हैं। बलवान अर्थात् पैर और रीढ़ झुक जाते हैं। पीसने वाली स्त्रियाँ अर्थात् दाँत गिरने लगते हैं। खिड़कियाँ अर्थात् आँखों की ज्योति मंद पड़ जाती है। सड़क के द्वार बंद होने का अर्थ है कि सुनने की शक्ति कम हो जाती है। चाँदी की डोरी, सोने का दीपक और घड़ा जैसे प्रतीक हमें स्मरण कराते हैं कि जीवन क्षणभंगुर है और हमें समय रहते परमेश्वर के लिए तैयार होना चाहिए।
सुसमाचार में यीशु अपने शिष्यों को अपने दुःखभोग के विषय में बताते हैं। वे स्पष्ट रूप से कहते हैं कि उन्हें मनुष्यों के हाथों सौंप दिया जाएगा। किन्तु शिष्य इस वचन को समझ नहीं पाए, क्योंकि उसका अर्थ उनसे छिपा हुआ था।
हमारे जीवन में भी कई बार ऐसा होता है। परमेश्वर हमारे हृदय में बोलते हैं, परन्तु हम उनके वचनों को समझ नहीं पाते। वे हमें जिस मार्ग पर चलने के लिए बुलाते हैं, उस पर कदम बढ़ाने में हम संकोच करते हैं। आज हमें परमेश्वर से यही प्रार्थना करनी चाहिए कि वे हमें उनकी इच्छा को समझने और समय रहते उसके अनुसार जीवन जीने की कृपा प्रदान करें।
“Be Ready Before Time”
Ecclesiastes 11:9–12:8 Luke 9:43b–45
Today's first reading reminds us to live our lives responsibly because one day God will judge us. It is often said that a life well lived makes old age richer and more graceful. The author of Ecclesiastes describes old age through beautiful metaphors that remind us of the frailty of human life.
The keepers of the house represent trembling hands and arms. The strong men symbolize the weakening legs and bent back. The women who grind refer to the loss of teeth. The windows signify dimming eyesight, while the shutting of the street doors points to failing hearing. The silver cord, the golden lamp, and the broken pitcher all remind us that earthly life is temporary and that we must prepare ourselves before the final day comes.
In the Gospel, Jesus prepares His disciples by speaking about His coming suffering. He tells them plainly that He will be handed over into the power of men. Yet they are unable to understand His words because their meaning remained hidden from them.
The same often happens in our own lives. God speaks to our hearts, but we fail to understand His voice. He shows us the path we should follow, yet we hesitate to walk in it. Today let us pray for the grace to understand God's will and to be spiritually prepared before the appointed time.
