“सच्ची धार्मिकता हृदय की शुद्धता में है”
गलातियों 5:1-6 लूका 11:37-41
जीवन का सार बाहरी आचरण में नहीं, बल्कि हृदय की शुद्धता और विश्वास की सच्चाई में है। धर्म के बाहरी दिखावे से कोई शुद्ध या अशुद्ध नहीं होता। मनुष्य को अशुद्ध करने वाला पाप है। बुरे विचार, अशुद्ध इच्छाएँ और हृदय से निकलने वाली दुष्ट भावनाएँ ही हमें वास्तव में अशुद्ध करती हैं।
आज के दोनों पाठ हमें एक गहरा संदेश देते हैं कि हमारा जीवन केवल बाहरी आचरण पर नहीं, बल्कि हृदय की सच्चाई पर आधारित होना चाहिए। संत पौलुस कहते हैं कि प्रभु यीशु ने हमें स्वतंत्र किया है ताकि हम सच्ची स्वतंत्रता में जीवन जी सकें। यह स्वतंत्रता स्वार्थ या पाप करने की नहीं, बल्कि पाप और नियमों की दासता से मुक्ति की है। कई बार हम बाहरी नियमों और धार्मिक रीति-रिवाजों पर भरोसा करते हैं ताकि लोग हमें धार्मिक समझें। परन्तु हमें वास्तव में धार्मिक हमारी आंतरिक शुद्धता बनाती है। सच्चा धर्म बाहरी कार्यों में नहीं, बल्कि प्रेम में सक्रिय विश्वास में प्रकट होता है।
संत लूका के सुसमाचार में प्रभु यीशु सिखाते हैं कि यदि हमारा हृदय अशुद्ध है तो बाहरी शुद्धता व्यर्थ है। जब वे एक फरीसी के घर भोजन करने गए, तो फरीसी इस बात से आश्चर्यचकित हुआ कि यीशु ने भोजन से पहले हाथ नहीं धोए। तब प्रभु ने कहा, “तुम लोग प्याले और थाली के बाहर को तो साफ करते हो, पर भीतर तुम्हारा मन लोभ, स्वार्थ और दुष्टता से भरा है।”
प्रभु यीशु बाहरी स्वच्छता का विरोध नहीं करते, बल्कि यह सिखाते हैं कि केवल बाहरी सफाई से हृदय शुद्ध नहीं होता। सच्ची पवित्रता भीतर से आती है, जब हमारा हृदय प्रेम, दया और सत्य से भर जाता है। परमेश्वर केवल हमारे बाहरी कार्यों को नहीं, बल्कि हमारे भीतरी मन को अधिक प्रिय मानते हैं। इसलिए सच्ची धार्मिकता बाहर नहीं, बल्कि भीतर होनी चाहिए। आज हम केवल बाहर से नहीं, बल्कि भीतर से भी शुद्ध बनने का संकल्प लें। अपने आप से पूछें—क्या हमारा विश्वास केवल दिखावे का है, या वह सत्य और प्रेम में जीया हुआ विश्वास है?
“True Religion Lies in the Purity of the Heart”
Galatians 5:1-6 Luke 11:37-41
The essence of life does not lie in external behaviour but in the purity of heart and the sincerity of faith. No one becomes pure or impure merely through outward religious practices or appearances. What truly defiles a person is sin—the evil thoughts and impure desires that arise from within the heart.
Both readings give us a profound message. Our Christian life should not be based merely on outward actions but on the truth that lives within our hearts. Saint Paul reminds us that Christ has set us free so that we may remain in true freedom. This freedom is not a licence for selfishness or sin, but freedom from the slavery of sin and the burden of legalism. Too often we rely on external rituals and religious customs so that others may consider us holy. Yet true holiness comes from inner purity. Genuine religion is expressed through faith that works in love.
In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that outward cleanliness is meaningless if the heart remains impure. When He visited a Pharisee's house for a meal, the Pharisee was surprised that Jesus did not perform the ritual washing before eating. Jesus replied, "You clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness."
Jesus was not condemning outward cleanliness; rather, He was teaching that external practices alone cannot purify the heart. True purity begins within, when our hearts are filled with love, mercy, and truth. God values not only our outward actions but also the intentions of our hearts. Therefore, true holiness must first dwell within us. Today we are called to become pure not only outwardly but also inwardly. Let us ask ourselves: Is our faith merely for appearance, or is it genuine and lived in truth?
