“Whoever Loses His Life for My Sake Will Find It”
“Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”
This profound saying of Jesus is like a holy riddle meant to make us pause and reflect deeply. It reveals a foundational truth about how we are called to live.
Those who live in a selfish and self-centred way ultimately fail to achieve their goal. They try to elevate themselves, thinking this is what is best for them. But Jesus clearly teaches that a selfish life leads to the loss of what is most important — we lose our very soul.
On the contrary, when we live selflessly — putting God and others before ourselves — we discover our true purpose and find real fulfilment on the deepest level.
Look at Jesus Himself. As the eternal Son of God, He chose to become human, suffer greatly, and die on the Cross. Was this fulfilling for Him? Yes, most certainly. Because His sacrifice was the perfect expression of who He is — Love itself. Love is always self-giving. It always seeks the good of the other. True love fulfils the lover when it is pure, holy, selfless, and total.
Jesus’ sacrificial death on the Cross not only redeemed us but also manifested the perfect fulfilment of His human nature, because it was an act of pure and total love.
Today, Jesus invites each of us to follow this same path: to lose our life for His sake so that we may truly find it.
