“Built on Rock or Sand?”
Today’s Gospel speaks about two houses — one built on rock and the other on sand. These two houses are a powerful reflection of our own lives. There is no middle ground. We are either wise or foolish, depending on where we lay the foundation of our Christian life.
This is a serious invitation for all of us to examine the foundation of our lives.
Life’s Foundation on Rock:
We build our life on rock when we base it on the values of the Gospel: Sacrifice, Humility, Forgiveness, Simplicity, Generosity, Love, Truthfulness, Justice, Sharing, Unity, the Common Good, and Prayer.
Life’s Foundation on Sand:
We build our life on sand when we base it on worldly things such as money, power, greed, anger, revenge, cheating, jealousy, gossip, selfishness, laziness, pleasure, or addiction to drinks. Such a life collapses quickly when storms come.
The question that Jesus places before us today is clear and urgent:
Where have I laid the foundation of my life?
Let us pray for the grace to build our lives firmly on Christ and His Gospel, so that when trials and difficulties come, we may stand strong and faithful.
