“Feast of St. Thomas the Apostle”
Today we celebrate the feast of St. Thomas, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. Often known as the “Doubting Thomas,” he exemplifies the honesty of human doubt and how it can become a pathway to deeper faith.
After the resurrection, Jesus appeared to the disciples, but Thomas was not with them. When the others told him they had seen the Lord, Thomas refused to believe unless he could see and touch the wounds of Jesus. A week later, Jesus appeared again, this time with Thomas present. He invited Thomas to touch His wounds. In that powerful moment, Thomas responded with a profound declaration of faith: “My Lord and my God!”
Tradition tells us that after this encounter, Thomas went as a missionary to India, where he preached the Gospel and eventually gave his life as a martyr. His doubt turned into deep conviction and fearless faith.
The story of St. Thomas teaches us that God can use even our weakest moments and honest doubts to lead us into stronger faith and mission. Even doubters can become great witnesses for Christ.
