प्रिय भाइयों और बहनों, आज के दोनों पवित्र पाठ हमें एक महत्वपूर्ण बात सिखाते हैं: केवल बाहरी धार्मिकता, परंपरा या रीति-रिवाज ईश्वर को प्रसन्न नहीं करते। ईश्वर हमारी आंतरिक आज्ञाकारिता और सच्चे हृदय को देखता है।

1 समूएल में, राजा साऊल ने ईश्वर की स्पष्ट आज्ञा का पालन नहीं किया। उसने अपने मन की चालाकी से बलिदान को आज्ञाकारिता के स्थान पर रख दिया। लेकिन नबी समूएल उसे स्पष्ट रूप से कहते हैं: “क्या होम और बलिदान प्रभु को इतने प्रिय होते हैं, जितना उसके आदेश का पालन?” परिणाम यह हुआ कि साऊल ने अपना सिंहासन खो दिया।

आज के सुसमाचार में, फरीसी येसु के शिष्यों पर उपवास न करने का दोष लगाते हैं। उनके लिए धर्म केवल परंपराओं और नियमों का पालन था। लेकिन येसु कहते हैं कि नया दाखरस, नई मशक में ही रखा जा सकता है। यानी, ईश्वर का कार्य नया है, और इसके लिए नम्र और खुला हृदय होना चाहिए।

क्या हम केवल बाहरी धार्मिकता में फंसे हैं—उपवास, प्रार्थना, चर्च जाना—लेकिन हम अपने जीवन में ईश्वर की आज्ञाओं की अनदेखी करते हैं? क्या हम धर्म के नाम पर अपने असली अनुशासन और समर्पण को छिपा रहे हैं?

येसु हमें केवल रीति-रिवाजों में नहीं, बल्कि अपने हृदय के परिवर्तन के लिए बुलाते हैं। वह हमारे दिलों को नया बनाना चाहते हैं।

Dear Brothers and Sisters, today’s both readings challenge us to consider the difference between outward religious activity and inward obedience. Saul tried to substitute obedience with sacrifice. The Pharisees tried to substitute relationship with God through ritual. In both cases, the heart was missing. And in both cases, God was not pleased.

These readings urge us to reflect: Are we clinging to traditions, rules, or appearances while ignoring what God is truly asking of us? Do we fast, pray, attend church, or serve but fail to obey in our daily lives? Do we use religious acts to cover up disobedience or justify compromises?

Jesus invites us into something deeper than ritual—a life transformed by His presence, like new wine. But for new wine to be preserved, the wineskin must also be new. This means our hearts must be renewed, flexible, and open to the movement of the Spirit. Saul lost his crown because he clung to his own logic instead of God’s voice. The Pharisees couldn’t recognize the Messiah because they were trapped in old patterns. Let us not make the same mistake.
