आज का वचन हमें यह बताता है कि मनुष्य की इच्छाएँ और ईश्वर की योजना के बीच कितना अंतर हो सकता है। इस्राएली लोग एक राजा की मांग करते हैं—जैसे अन्य राष्ट्रों के पास होता है। हालांकि ईश्वर स्वयं उनका राजा था, लेकिन वे एक इंसानी राजा चाहते थे—एक ऐसा राजा जो दिखे, जो शक्ति और अधिकार के साथ शासन करे। यह एक बाहरी समाधान था, एक सांसारिक मांग।

आज के सुसमाचार में हम एक लकवाग्रस्त व्यक्ति को देखते हैं जिसे उसके दोस्त भीड़ के कारण छत के रास्ते येसु के पास लाते हैं। येसु सबसे पहले यह नहीं कहते, “तू चंगा हो गया,” बल्कि कहते हैं, “तुम्हारे पाप क्षमा हो गए हैं।” लोग चकित हो जाते हैं—वे चमत्कार चाहते थे, पर येसु ने आत्मिक चंगाई दी।

दोनों पाठ हमें यह सिखाते हैं कि जो हम चाहते हैं, वह हमेशा वही नहीं होता जो हमें वास्तव में चाहिए। इस्राएली लोग सत्ता और नियंत्रण चाहते थे। भीड़ चमत्कार देखना चाहती थी। पर ईश्वर गहराई में काम करता है—वह हमारे दिलों को बदलना चाहता है।

हम भी अक्सर सतही चीजों की प्रार्थना करते हैं—स्थिति बदल जाए, काम मिल जाए, बीमारी ठीक हो जाए। ये सब आवश्यक हैं, पर ईश्वर हमें केवल समाधान देने नहीं आया है—वह हमें नया हृदय, क्षमा, और एक जीवित संबंध देना चाहता है।

In the book of Exodus, the Israelites demanding a king to rule over them “like all the other nations.” Though God was their true King, they were not satisfied. They wanted a human ruler—someone visible and powerful in worldly terms. In the Gospel the paralytic man who is brought to Jesus by his friends. They lower him through the roof because of the crowd. Jesus sees their faith and says, “your sins are forgiven.”

Both readings reflect a tension between what people want and what God knows is best. The Israelites wanted a king like the world had—something visible and tangible. The crowd wanted a miracle, something dramatic. But in both cases, God offers something deeper: a relationship, healing of the heart, and his divine authority.

Often, we too fall into the trap of desiring what seems good in the eyes of the world—status, power, control, or quick fixes to problems. We may even pray for these things persistently. But God invites us to go deeper. He wants to rule our hearts, not just fix our situations. He wants to forgive, transform, and guide us, not just grant our surface-level requests.
