आज के पाठ हमें एक गहरा और शक्तिशाली संदेश देता है कि हम ईश्वर की उपस्थिति को धोखा नहीं दे सकते, और न ही उसकी आज्ञाओं की अवहेलना करते हुए उस पर अपना दावा कर सकते हैं। इस्राएली लोगों ने ईश्वर की विधान की मंजूषा को एक शकुन की तरह इस्तेमाल किया, लेकिन उन्होंने ईश्वर की आज्ञाओं और उपस्थिति को सच्चे विश्वास और विनम्रता से सम्मान नहीं किया।

आज के सुसमाचार में एक कोढ़ी बड़ी विनम्रता और विश्वास के साथ येसु के पास आता है। वह चंगाई की मांग नहीं करता, बल्कि कहता है: “आप चाहे, तो मुझे शुद्ध कर सकते हैं।” येसु करुणा से भर उठते हैं और उसे तुरंत चंगा कर देते हैं। कोढ़ी येसु की शक्ति और इच्छा को पहचानता है, और वह किसी प्रतीक या रीति-रिवाज़ पर नहीं, बल्कि सीधे येसु की दया और प्रेम पर भरोसा करता है। यह एक सच्चा विश्वास का उदाहरण है।

ये दोनों पाठ हमारे सामने बाहरी धार्मिकता और आंतरिक विश्वास के अंतर को रखते हैं। इस्राएलियों के पास ईश्वर की उपस्थिति के रूप में विधान की मंजूषा थी, पर उनके पास आज्ञाकारिता और विश्वास नहीं था। दूसरी ओर, कोढ़ी के पास कोई धार्मिक चिन्ह नहीं था, केवल विश्वास था और वही विश्वास येसु के हृदय को स्पर्श कर गया।

आज हमें भी अपने जीवन की जांच करनी चाहिए। क्या हम केवल धार्मिक कार्यों, चर्च जाने पर निर्भर हैं, जबकि हमारा हृदय ईश्वर से दूर है? या हम कोढ़ी की तरह येसु के पास सच्चे और विनम्र हृदय से आते हैं, उसकी इच्छा को प्राथमिकता देते हुए?

Today’s passage teaches us a powerful lesson: we cannot manipulate or presume upon God’s presence while living in disobedience. The Israelites had treated the Ark like a good luck charm, instead of honouring God’s commandments and presence with true faith and humility.

On the other hand, in the gospel a leper comes to Jesus with deep humility and faith. He doesn’t demand healing, but says, “If you choose, you can make me clean.” Jesus, moved with compassion, heals him instantly. Here, we see an example of true surrender and trust in God’s will. The leper acknowledges Jesus’s authority and chooses to rely not on ritual or symbols, but directly on Jesus’ heart and mercy.

These two readings together show a contrast between external religion and internal faith. The Israelites had the symbol of God’s presence but lacked the heart of obedience and trust. The leper had no symbol—he had only faith, and that was enough to move Jesus.

We too must examine ourselves. Do we rely on religious rituals, church attendance, or spiritual symbols while our hearts are far from God, or do we, like the leper, come to Jesus with a sincere and humble heart, seeking His will above all.
