आज वर्ष के अंतिम दिन हमें वचन स्मरण कराता है कि संसार और उसकी सारी इच्छाएँ नाशवान हैं। नाम, दौलत और शक्ति सब कुछ वर्ष के अंतिम सूर्यास्त की तरह मिट जाता है। संसार और उसकी वासना समाप्त हो रही है; किन्तु जो ईश्वर की इच्छा पूरी करता है, वह युग-युगों तक बना रहता है (1 योहन 2:17)।

संत सिलवेस्टर, जिन्हें हम आज स्मरण करते हैं, ने उत्पीड़न और कठिनाई के समय चर्च का मार्गदर्शन किया। उनका जीवन हमें सिखाता है कि नेतृत्व सांसारिक पहचान के लिए नहीं बल्कि मसीह के प्रति निष्ठा के लिए है। सुसमाचार कहता है, “आदि में वचन था, वचन ईश्वर के साथ था और वचन ही ईश्वर था” (योहन 1:1)।

यही वचन शरीरधारी हुआ और हमें अनंत जीवन देने आया। जब हम पिछले वर्ष पर दृष्टि डालते हैं, तो हमें पूछना चाहिए: क्या मैंने ईश्वर की इच्छा पूरी करने में जीवन बिताया या नाशवान इच्छाओं के पीछे भागा? आज का दिन हमें आमंत्रित करता है कि हम मिटने वाली वस्तुओं को छोड़ें और शाश्वत वचन को ग्रहण करें। यदि हम उसके साथ चलते हैं तो वर्ष चाहे बदलते रहें, हमारा जीवन ईश्वर में सच्चा अर्थ पाता है।

As the year comes to a close, the Word reminds us that everything in this world is passing. Fame, power, wealth—all of it fades like the last sunset of the year. But God’s will is eternal, and those who live according to it remain forever (1 John 2:17).

St. Sylvester, the Pope whom we remember today, guided the Church with faith during a time of persecution and change. He teaches us that leadership in the Church is not about earthly recognition but about fidelity to Christ. The Gospel reminds us that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).

Christ, the eternal Word, became flesh to give us life that does not end. As we look back on the past year, let us ask ourselves: Have I lived more for passing desires or for God’s will? This day invites us to let go of attachments that fade and embrace the eternal Word. If we walk with Him, then even as years pass, our life finds its true meaning in God.
