आज हम बेथलेहेम के उन मासूम बच्चों को याद करते हैं जिन्हें राजा हेरोद के भय और क्रूरता के कारण मार डाला गया। सुसमाचार में स्वर्गदूत यूसुफ को चेतावनी देते हैं कि वे मरियम और येसु को लेकर मिस्र भाग जाएँ क्योंकि “हेरोद बालक को मार डालने के लिए उसे ढूँढ़ने वाला है” (मत्ती 2:13)। इन बच्चों ने एक शब्द भी नहीं कहा, पर अपनी मासूम शहादत से मसीह की गवाही दी।

आज के पाठ हमें याद दिलाते हैं कि बुराई अक्सर ईश्वर की योजनाओं को नष्ट करना चाहती है, परंतु ईश्वर सदैव अपने मिशन की रक्षा करता है। निर्दोषों की पुकार आज भी संसार में गूँजती है—जहाँ हिंसा और अन्याय बच्चों और कमजोरों को पीड़ित करते हैं। ये शहीद हमें याद दिलाते हैं कि जीवन एक पवित्र वरदान है जिसकी रक्षा करनी चाहिए।

पवित्र परिवार ने खतरे के समय भी ईश्वर पर भरोसा किया, और हमें भी अपने परिवारों को उसकी देखभाल में सौंपना चाहिए। अपने जीवन में हमें भी कमजोरों का बचाव करना है और उन लोगों के लिए आवाज़ बनना है जो खुद कुछ नहीं कह सकते। आज का पर्व हमें चुनौती देता है कि हम अपने समय के “हेरोद”—लोभ, हिंसा और उदासीनता—का विरोध करें और हर बच्चे को स्वागत योग्य, मूल्यवान और सुरक्षित बनायें।

Today we remember the little children of Bethlehem who were killed because of King Herod’s fear and cruelty. In the Gospel, the angel warns Joseph to flee with Mary and Jesus to Egypt. These children did not speak a word, but by their innocent deaths they bore witness to Christ.

In today’s readings, we are reminded that evil often tries to destroy God’s plans, but God always protects His mission. The cry of the innocent still echoes in our world—wherever violence and injustice harm children and the weak. These martyrs remind us that life is a sacred gift to be protected.

The Holy Family trusted in God’s guidance even in danger, teaching us to place our families under His care. In our own lives, we must also defend the vulnerable and speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. Today’s feast challenges us to resist the “Herods” of our time—greed, violence, and indifference. The innocent blood of these children is united with Christ, the Lamb of God. May their witness move us to build a world where every child is welcomed, valued, and safe.
