आज हम संत स्तेफनुस, प्रथम शहीद, का पर्व मनाते हैं, जिन्होंने प्रेम और क्षमा के साथ मसीह के लिए अपने प्राण अर्पित किए। पहले पाठ में स्तेफनस का साहस और उनका यह दर्शन कि येसु ईश्वर के दाहिने हाथ पर खड़े हैं, हमें हमारे दुःखों में आशा देते हैं। उनके ये शब्द “हे प्रभु येसु, मेरी आत्मा को ग्रहण कर” (प्रेरित चरित 7:59), ईश्वर पर उनका सम्पूर्ण विश्वास दिखाते हैं।

सुसमाचार में येसु कहते हैं कि उनके शिष्य सताए जाएंगे, परन्तु जो धैर्य धरेगा वही उद्धार पाएगा। आज के पाठ हमें बुलाते हैं कि हम मसीह के प्रति विश्वासयोग्य बने रहें, चाहे संसार हमें अस्वीकार करे।

स्तेफनस हमें सिखाते हैं कि ईसाई की सच्ची विजय शक्ति या सुरक्षा में नहीं बल्कि प्रेम और गवाही में है। उन्होंने अपने शत्रुओं को उसी तरह क्षमा किया जैसे येसु ने किया था। हमारा विश्वास केवल बड़े संकटों में ही नहीं बल्कि छोटे-छोटे दैनिक निर्णयों में भी परखा जाता है जहाँ हमें असत्य पर सत्य, स्वार्थ पर न्याय और क्रोध पर क्षमा को चुनना होता है।

स्तेफनुस का जीवन हमें प्रेरित करता है कि हम दुःख के पार जाकर स्वर्ग की महिमा देखें। उनकी शहादत बताती है कि गवाहों का रक्त कलीसिया का बीज बनता है। अपने जीवन में हम भी साहसी शिष्य बनें जो मसीह में दृढ़ बने रहें।

Today we celebrate St. Stephen, the first martyr, who gave his life for Christ with love and forgiveness “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit” (Acts 7:59). In the first reading, Stephen’s courage and his vision of Jesus standing at the right hand of God give us hope in our trials. His words, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit,” show his total trust in God even in death.

In the Gospel, Jesus reminds us that His disciples will be persecuted, but those who endure will be saved. In today’s readings, we are invited to remain faithful to Christ even when the world rejects us.

Stephen teaches us that the true victory of a Christian is not in power or safety but in love and witness. He forgave his enemies just like Jesus, showing us the path of mercy. Our faith is tested not only in big trials but also in daily challenges where we must choose truth over lies, justice over selfishness, and forgiveness over anger.

St. Stephen’s life encourages us to look beyond suffering and see the glory of heaven. His martyrdom tells us that the blood of witnesses becomes the seed of the Church. In our own lives, may we be courageous disciples who stand firm in Christ.
