प्रिय भाइयों और बहनों, अक्सर सत्य बोलना या धार्मिक जीवन जीना आलोचना और विरोध को जन्म देता है। आज के सुसमाचार में हम देखते हैं कि फरीसी येसु से उनके अधिकार के बारे में सवाल करते हैं कि उन्होंने किसके अधिकार से मंदिर को शुद्ध किया और सूदखोरों की मेजें उलट दीं?

फरीसी और शास्त्री, जो उस समय धार्मिक नेता थे, व्यापारियों द्वारा गरीबों के साथ हो रहे अन्याय पर मौन थे। शायद वे इन व्यापारियों से उपहार या लाभ पाते थे और इस कारण ईश्वर की न्यायपूर्ण बुलाहट को नजरअंदाज कर देते थे। उनका मुख्य उद्देश्य अपनी शक्ति और लोकप्रियता बनाए रखना था, न कि ईश्वर के सत्य और न्याय को बनाए रखना। यह रवैया प्रभु को पसंद नहीं आया।

इसके विपरीत, आज का पहला पाठ (गणना 24) बिलआम की कहानी बताता है, जिसे राजा बालाक ने इस्राएलियों को शाप देने के लिए बुलाया था। लेकिन बिलआम ने राजा की बात मानने के बजाय ईश्वर की आज्ञा मानी। उसने साफ कहा: "क्या मैंने आपके दूतों से, जिन्हें आपने मेरे पास भेजा था, यह नहीं कहा था कि यदि बालाक मुझे इतना सोना चाँदी दे, जो उनके महल में भी न समा सके, तो भी मैं न तो प्रभु के आदेश का उल्लंघन करूँगा और न अपनी ओर से भला-बुरा कहूँगा। जो प्रभु कहेगा, मैं वही बोलूँगा।" (गिनती 24:12-13)

यह हमारा भी दैनिक रवैया होना चाहिए। हमारे शब्द, कर्म और निर्णय केवल ईश्वर को प्रसन्न करने के लिए होने चाहिए, न कि मनुष्यों को।

संत पौलुस फिलिप्पियों 3:8 में कहते हैं: "मैं प्रभु ईसा मसीह को जानना सर्वश्रेष्ठ लाभ मानता हूँ और इस ज्ञान की तुलना में हर वस्तु को हानि ही मानता हूँ।" मसीह ही हमारा सच्चा पुरस्कार हैं। आइए हम यह प्रार्थना करें कि हम ईश्वर की सच्चाई और न्याय के प्रति अडिग प्रतिबद्धता के साथ जीवन जी सकें।

Dear Friends, often, speaking the truth or living righteously can bring criticism or opposition. Today, we see Jesus being questioned about His authority by Pharisees and on whose authority did He cleanse the temple and overturn the tables of the moneylenders? The religious leaders, the Pharisees and scribes, who held positions of influence, remained silent about the injustice done to the poor by these businessmen. Perhaps they were pleased by gifts or favours from them, choosing to ignore God’s call for justice. Their concern was to maintain their own power and popularity rather than uphold God’s truth and justice. This complacency displeased the Lord.

In contrast, today’s first reading from Numbers tells the story of Balaam, who was hired by King Balak to curse the Israelites. Yet Balaam obeyed God, not the king. He refused to act against God’s will even when offered great riches. Balaam declares, “Did I not tell your messengers whom you sent to me, that if Balak gave me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the word of the Lord to do good or bad of my own will? What the Lord says, that is what I will say.” (Numbers 24:12-13)

This should be our attitude every day. Our words, actions, and decisions must seek to please God above all, not people.

As St. Paul reminds us in Philippians 3:8, “I regard everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” Christ alone is our true reward. Let us pray for the grace to live with this unwavering commitment to God’s truth and justice in our lives.
